Q: Audio/video out of sync (audio delay) with PowerBeats wireless earphones.

I am having a problem with audio/video sync between my  PowerBeats Wireless earphones with my MacPro and MacBookPro. I have tried pairing, playing the video, pausing the video, turning off the PowerBeats, tuning the PowerBeats on, then starting the video playback again. I have the same audio delay so this not working for me. Anyone have an update as to how to fix this audio/video sync problem?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Also, same issue with MacBookPro.

If you play the video with MPlayerX

    <http://mplayerx.org>

you can adjust the audio sync in its AVS menu.

I did down load MPlayerX, version 1.0.22.1, on my MacPro with Mac OS 10.6.8. When I opened the DMG, the MPlayerX appeared on my desktop (44.7 MB on disk) and not in my applications folder. When I double click on the MPlayerX icon, it does show in the display top menu. When I pull down AVS and select Reset Audio Delay, nothing happens. What am I supposed to do?  I then opened the video (Great Courses lecture) video in iTunes, used the Bluetooth setup assistant to pair with the PowerBeats wireless earphones, the pairing was successful then what am I supposed to do? Sorry, I do not understand how MPlayerX is supposed to work. Please explain? Thanks for your assistance.

Drag the MPlayerX icon into the Applications folder.  You can then eject the .dmg (Click ⏏ next to it in Finder's sidebar) and put in in the trash.

Use "Increase Audio Delay" or "Decrease Audio Delay" as needed to sync the audio to the video.

"Reset Audio Delay" is to set it back to normal.

I did drag the MPlayerX icon into my applications folder. When I pull down the AVS menu, the Increase Audio Delay and Decrease Audio Delay is grayed out so I cannot select either. When I select MPlayerX to open from my dock, I pull down File and select Open VIDEO_TS.... then select the video file  where all files are grayed out. Then the diagnostic Error appears:  "Oops, it seems that mplayer has quite without playing  the media." Still do not know what to do.

What kind of video are you trying to play?

"Open VIDEO_TS" is for DVD movies.

"Open..." is for other video files.

"Increase Audio Delay" and "Decrease Audio Delay" will be greyed out until a video file is opened.

I am playing MPEG-4 movie files. I did open MPlayerX from my dock, then pulled down File to select Open which then did show the folder where these movie files are stored.  Then I was able to select a movie file, open it, and use "Decrease Audio Delay" to closely sync the audio with the video. I say closely because it is not perfect. Rather than stepping each increase or decrease in one tenth of a second, perhaps a finer adjustment would have been in milliseconds. This is the adjustment that I have with my AVR to sync the audio with the video, so I know this is a possible increment adjustment. The perfect adjustment was in between -0.4 and -0.5 second, however, this was not possible in one tenth second adjustments. The closest adjustment was with -0.4 second rather than with -0.5 second. So, adjustments in milliseconds could have been very near a perfect sync. Perhaps later versions of MPlayer will offer the adjustment selection in milliseconds. Nevertheless, this is working much, much better than before. Thank you so much. I have spent most of this day researching this problem and you have come up with by far the best solution. This problem goes all the way back to 2010 and possibly beyond for Apple products. There are hundreds of reports documenting out of sync audio/video issues with no solution that works as well as MPlayerX. Even the Beats support staff have no idea of how to resolve the audio/video out of sync.

Perhaps later versions of MPlayer will offer the adjustment selection in milliseconds.

You can get finer adjustments with the current version.  Run Terminal (Utilities folder) and enter:

defaults write org.niltsh.MPlayerX AudioDelayStepTime -float 0.01

That will give you 10 ms steps.

To return to normal, use  the Terminal command:

    defaults delete org.niltsh.MPlayerX AudioDelayStepTime

(Quit MplayerX before using Terminal.  Press the Enter or Return key after each Terminal command.)
