My ATV is no longer keeping the look-ahead cache updated. The initial start of a video shows the white status bar moving ahead of the actual playing marker however, after several minutes the look-ahead cache stops loading an the picture starts to start and stop. This occurs on both WiFi and hardwared network. My other ATV look-ahead cache will finish the download of the cache with no problem. Any ideas? BTW it is an old V2.

As a preliminary troubleshooting step, I would suggest that you reset your Apple TV using the information in the following article:

followup:
I tried to do a software update but it told me that my software was current.
I did a reset and low and behold it said that it was updating my software. After the update
the unit has been working fine. Go figure :-( Anyway, the ATV is now complaint with its operation and I am happy.
