Why does Youtube only display 720p MacBook Pro Retina?

Using Safari. I heard it works on Chrome.

Why will it only allow 720p or less on YouTube on the Retina Display?

Thanks

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Generally, YouTube sets the limit on resolution. If the original was uploaded at 720p, neither YouTube nor your computer can make that bigger. It is source dependent.

On my 2012 13-inch non-Retina MBP, Safari shows a full 1080p option that runs fine on my MBP:

Can you see the 1080 option on your computer?
