Hi

I have a friend who uses iMessage. I sent them a message just now and I think they are on a plane so it went through as a text and says "sent as text message" and it's green. Will they receive this message when they land, or is it lost in cyberspace?

Hello!

The Messages app on the iPhone is capable of sending and receiving regular SMS/MMS text messages as well as iMessages. When you send an iMessage, Apple will route that message through their servers using an Internet connection. This Internet connection can be either Wi-Fi or your cellular provider’s data network. If no Internet connection is available, the Messages app may attempt to deliver the iMessage as a regular SMS text message. Depending on your text messaging plan, this could mean texting charges will be billed by your cell phone provider. Also, the person's (to whom your message is being sent) phone might also have this issue, or their device could be off.

I hope I helped. If you have any questions, please feel free to reply to ask me! 🙂

Sincerely,

Westen 😀

I'm almost sure that it'll send to them when they land. It goes through the connections with success, but since their phone is in airplane mode, it won't actually make contact with their phone until they turn off airplane mode. If it doesn't happen to make it, I would call them when they land to see if they have received the text message that you have sent to them for future cases. I hope I helped.

Please ask any more questions if you feel the need to! 🙂

Sincerely,

Westen 😀 😀
