Jul 22, 2014 12:19 PM in response to thesserby Loner T,There is a much more comprehensive list, last updated on 10 Jul 2014 at EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs
The 2.9 MBA 2011 update came out on 15 Jul 2014.
The download site for notebooks is Apple - Support - Downloads.
The older article from 4 Sep 2012 on restoring firmware is About the Firmware Restoration CD (Intel-based Macs).

Jul 22, 2014 12:52 PM in response to PSS395by Dave Ings,+1 ... I have installed it twice - it now shows in the "Updates Installed in the Last 30 Days" list twice - and yet the App Store still shows it as available.
This is the sort of botched update I (used to) expect from Microsoft, not Apple.
At least my Air did not become a brick.

Jul 22, 2014 1:10 PM in response to elizabethdaneby AlaskaTom7,We are having the same problem as well. My son is on an internship in a somewhat remote place in Alaska (read: no Apple genius to bring it to), with his Macbook Air. He sent me a text informing me that his perfectly working MBA won't power on at all after applying a firmware update this morning. It's dead, killed by Apple, and it is out of warranty.
I came here and found this thread and directed him to try the two different power on key combinations being recommended, but his MBA still won't power on.
He is really stuck, and his flight home isn't until August 3 which is 2 weeks away.

Jul 22, 2014 1:12 PM in response to AlaskaTom7by PSS395,Tell him to try and unplug his MBA, close the lid and open it again, and then hold the power button. It worked out for me.

Jul 22, 2014 1:26 PM in response to elizabethdaneby Ondray Wells Jr.,Try SHIFT+FN+CONTROL+OPTION+POWER. That seems to be the standard SMC reset with the addition of the FN key. Maybe that's what the guy did on my laptop.

Jul 22, 2014 1:37 PM in response to memnongrby Zorenc, tried it 5 times inclusief manual install, no results. I think Apple screwed this one up.

Jul 22, 2014 1:48 PM in response to memnongrby jason kessel,Add me to the list. This firmware will not update. System profile still shows older firmware (MBA41.0077.B0F) and the App Store still says I need to update. I tried four times and no go. I'm on live chat right now to report this to Apple.

Jul 22, 2014 1:52 PM in response to memnongrby Jestyn,Mine didn't brick, but it takes a long long time to restart, and when it does AppStore still tells me I need to install the update...

Jul 22, 2014 2:21 PM in response to memnongrby marco79cgn,Mind didn't brick either, but it took a long time to restart and tells me to reinstall it over and over again.
MacBookAir4,2 (13", Mid 2011)
EFI: MBA41.0077.B0F
All the people I know have B0F at the end.

Jul 22, 2014 2:34 PM in response to jason kesselby jason kessel,I reported this via chat. I provided all the information about my system. The support person (Justin) said they would like to schedule a call for an engineer to get more information from me. Then I got an email confirming the scheduled call. My phone rang at the exact time the email said I would get a call. However, after pressing 1 to speak to a representative (it was automated when I answered), I was patched through to another Apple Support rep. He seemed just as puzzled as I was about not actually getting a call from an engineer. He then placed me on hold to talk to a senior support person about how to handle this. He then came back on the line saying he had a technician (Sean?) who would like to talk to me... then he hung up! I even gave the guy my number to be reached in case we got disconnected. Did I get a call back? Nope! Come on Apple!
Fail...

Jul 22, 2014 2:46 PM in response to jason kesselby Loner T,Typically they stay on the call and confirm handover in a three-way handshake. This is pretty strange. If you have a case number or have access to your
https://supportprofile.apple.com/ you can enter your AppleID/password and schedule another call. The case number is usually listed under the link Cases at the bottom of the page.
