If Safari is still functional, it's not required to update it to keep using it. It usually is a good idea though to remain current with security updates to Safari, as with system updates. Sadly, as systems, OSs and their components age companies start dropping official support. If you've checked for updates through the Apple Menu > Software Update, and nothing is available, here are some links (not direct downloads) from Apple for both Safari and OS X 10.5.6:

Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard - Apparently the last version for PPC.

Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update - You might might have installed this already.

Security Update 2011-004 (Leopard) - Ditto.

Security info for Leopard from Apple: https://ssl.apple.com/support/security/guides/docs/Leopard_Security_Config_2nd_E d.pdf

Alternate browsers for your system:

TenFourFox: http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/

Roccat: http://runecats.com/roccat.html

OmniWeb: http://www.omnigroup.com/more

Stainless: http://www.stainlessapp.com

SeaMonkey: http://www.seamonkey-project.org

If you decide to use TenFourFox, and want to use Flash, see this discussion: Re: What Web Browser Can I now use for Mac OS X 10.5.8? Is support completely gone?

Current, with constant updates, you can run leopard-webkit: https://code.google.com/p/leopard-webkit/

Given the last supported OS X version for PowerPC hardware is Leopard 10.5.8,

the last supported Safari browser version for that OS X available is Safari 5.0.6.

If you do not have a Safari that 'new' you can get that version here:

Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard

This update contains improvements to stability, compatibility, and security.

•Apple - Support - Downloads - Safari versions

Other browsers for PowerPC Macs running Tiger 10.4.11 and Leopard 10.5.8

vary, some recently supported ones include iCab, TenFourFox, SeaMonkey

for PPC, and each have their own sites; avoid softonic, cnet & other D/L sites.

{There are no recent versions of Safari for vintage and obsolete systems.}

TenFourFox versions for G4/G5:

http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/

SeaMonkey for PPC (G5) v.2.26

http://sourceforge.net/projects/seamonkey-for-ppc/

iCab Browsers - (shareware -- works in demo)

http://www.icab.de/dl.php

For Adobe Flash in PPC, check the last supported version, then look for

a link to patch it to a later (but not current) semi-workable update.

•Adobe Flash Player - installation problems - Mac OS: (hard to find for old PPC)

http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html

http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-mac.ht ml

or try: click here for older versions of Adobe Flash Player.

http://scriptogr.am/nordkril/post/adobe-flash-11.5-for-powerpc to see Patch info/link:

•Adobe Flash 'Patch 11.5' for PowerPC - (download Patch for an installed v 10.1+ Flash)

http://bit.ly/TV71v5

So, hopefully you can find the old last officially supported vintage Adobe Flash player

from Adobe downloads; they changed the link to get the PPC vintage. If you get it

save the download for reinstallation at a later date; plus the Patch, to have on hand.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
