Q: Dymo printer not working correctly under Mavericks

I've had a Dymo Twin Turbo label printer for a number of years, and it worked flawlessly until I installed Mavericks. Since then it frequently shows up as disconnected, and the only way to reconnect has been to remove the printer from the printer list in System Prefs, then re-add it. After this it would print fine for a day or so.

Since upgrading to 10.9.4 I can't get anything to print from the Dymo at all. It still frequently disconnects, but once it is connected jobs just hang in the printer queue, and I get the message 'unable to get InputSlot choice'. I've tried pausing/resuming, tried the usual re-adding of the printer, even removed all Dymo software and reinstalled as a completely new printer. Nothing going.

I installed the latest Dymo software (8.5.1) a few months back when it was released, and the printer is connected directly to the Mac as it always has been.

Any ideas?

    How is the printer connected?

USB cable to a port on the back of the Mac Pro. Also tried it on a hub and on a port on a new USB 3 card I fitted last week, but no joy.

Do you have any other printers, and if so, do they work?

A Canon inkjet (MP600R) that is connected to an Airport Express. That one works fine.

The printer is probably malfunctioning, but you can try this:

OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system

Looks like the printer is probably on the way out as resetting the printing system didn't fix anything. Seems too much of a coincidence for it to start misbehaving the day I installed 10.9, and to stop completely on the day I installed 10.9.4, but there doesn't seem to be any other explanation.

You could try contacting DYMO tech support.

You probably know this by now, Dymo has confirmed that older Dymo printers don't work with 10.9.4. Dymo is aware of the issue but hasn't given any date for a fix.

In all probability there is nothing, whatsoever, wrong with your printer -- Apple and Dymo need to play nicer together!

    Really annoying.

Dymo Label Writer Twin Turbo should be working fine on Mavericks using the latest version of Dymo Label Software 8.5.1. Since you have already tried a re-installation using the latest version, I would highly recommend you to contact our Technical Support so we can check out if the issue is hardware related. ^CP

    @ DYMO_support:

Sorry, but another representative from Dymo support (didn't save the email) told me just this week that the Twin Turbo and other "older" Dymo printers DO NOT WORK WITH 10.9.4.

I, personally, have made multiple attempts to get the Twin Turbo working on my late-2013 iMac running 10.9.4 -- using Dymo software 8.5.1. All attempts failed.

The print utility always shows either/or "printer offline" and some other cryptic error that I can't recall.

The Twin Turbo DOES NOT WORK WITH 10.9.4 even with Dymo's latest software.

    Further to the above post:

Just received another email from Dymo Support (contacted via the Dymo website):

    1.     The writer (Christopher) confirmed that Dymo no longer supports the Twin Turbo label writer; it will NOT work with Mac o/s 10.9.4 and there are no plans to that printer it in the future.

    2.     He offered to sell me any new Dymo label writer for 20% off MSRP.

The MSRP for a new Twin Turbo 450 (the equivalent to the Twin Turbo I have) is $199. Amazon, and others, offer the identical item for $112. So Dymo's offer of a new printer for $160 is really a rip-off, not any kind of good customer relations offer!

    So:

    1.     Whoever posted above representing themselves as "Dymo_support" is, clearly, wrong in the information he/she posted;

    2.     Dymo apparently thinks people are stupid -- buy our product (but we will only support it for a few years and then we'll sell you another one at an inflated price)!

I don't know how may Dymo "support" reps there are but I do know that I have now received three separate emails from Dymo telling me that the Twin Turbo is not supported under Mac o/s 10.9.4.

The most recent email says that there is no intention to support the Twin Turbo, either. The email says "due to the age of the Twin Turbo".

My Twin Turbo is only 5-6 years old; I think most people would expect the service life of a printer to be somewhat longer.

I used to think Dymo was a good company with excellent products; I no longer believe that.

Would be interesting if you, "DYMO_support", explained to the Apple Community who you are and what, exactly, your role is -- clearly you don't know what you are talking about in this instance.
