Jul 23, 2014 11:41 PM in response to tannoyby fosnola,★HelpfulHello Tannoy,
if you just want to convert your files, you can also take a look at http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/aw/page1.html , i.e.
- if iWork'09 was installed on your computer, it must still be here and can convert your AppleWorks 6 word processing, spreadsheet and presentation documents,
- or if your documents are not too complex, you can also try to convert them using LibreOffice (free), ...

Jul 24, 2014 12:37 PM in response to fosnolaby tannoy,Thanks for the tips. I do have AppleWorks drawing files (.cwk) I need to open and save as .PDF or .JPG and it looks like I have to buy the original AppleWorks and run it on a G4 iBook to convert them. I tried LibreOffice but it is kinda clunky with the text. Maybe it is having a problem substituting the fonts with those in Mavericks.

the LibreOffice's convertor is still far from perfect: ie. it has problem converting groups which contains a picture and some shapes ( I am trying to improve that ), if a shape/picture/group appear on several pages, it will be put the shape/... on the first page :-~, there exists some wrapping problems, etc...
Concerning the text, a big problem is that each application uses different algorithm to render text ( so perfection is impossible ), there is also the problem of fonts' substitution and I may have make some mistakes in the conversion's code(*)...

Note: EazyDraw is cited in http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/aw/page3.html as a way to convert drawing file ( read also http://www.eazydraw.com/appleWorks.htm ), it is not free but it may be an application to consider...

Jul 25, 2014 11:25 AM in response to fosnolaby tannoy,I do find the information about dealing with AppleWorks .cwk files helpful. I am not criticizing the LibreOffice app. It's just that I couldn't easily edit the .cwf document it open. Some text just can't be changed (font, size etc.). It is in text boxes but I can't access the full text but some I could easily change the font and size. Maybe I will send the files (2) to fosnola once I have an email address. It is info about my family tree that I created in AppleWorks 6.2.9 in Snow Leopard. After Mavericks flagged AppleWorks as unusable, I made the mistake of deleting it instead of saving it for another Mac that has SL. I have an Apple 5.5 Installation but that won't run on Tiger. Probably need something I am missing.
Thanks

Jul 26, 2014 1:11 AM in response to tannoyby fosnola,Hello,
yes, selecting background image/shape is/was painful in LibreOffice but some improvements seem to have appeared in LibreOffice 4.3 (*). OpenOffice 4.0 has the same problem, I do not know if it is corrected in OpenOffice 4.1 ; i.e. as when LibreOffice converts a document, you can save the result and then opened it with OpenOffice/NeoOffice, ... , this may be another solution.
(*) i.e. I test the release candidate on some few files and I can now select easily some picture/textbox which were difficult to select before...
