Older iPod not showing up for syncing in iMac iTunes

I've an older iPod, model MA497LL, i.e. an 8 GB, software version 1.1.3.

When I try to synch it, it does not appear on iTunes 11.3 on my 10.9.4 desktop.

Any fixes? Or is this guy past synching?

Hello ThisIssue

Check out the troubleshooting assistant in the first article below. It will walk you through a few simple steps like restarting your iPod nano and changing ports on your Mac. Another troubleshooting option is to put your iPod nano into disk mode and then plug it in and see if iTunes recognizes it to be restored.

Thanks, I went to the help pages you recommended & they seemed like promising fixes, but the iPod buttons would not respond the way the help pages suggested they would. I could not get the iPod into disc mode, or into troubleshooting mode.

As a side note, when I connected the iPod to my iMac, Disc Utility did not recognize the device either.

I also reset all the iPod's settings in its menu wheel, but no help there either.

This problem seemed to fix itself. Or possibly it was a glitch from the iPod having previously not been ejected properly before removing. A month after the original problem I connected the iPod again. A couple of times of ejecting it (through a finder window, I believe) and connecting it by USB & suddenly iTunes could recognize the iPod again, & I was able to synch it.
