My iPad is frozen on connect to itunes icon...will not let me do anything. I tried to restore it to settings, but after an hour of updating, it said it could not be restored. This ipad2 is only 3 years old.

What do you mean by connect to itunes icon? It's in recovery mode, right?

Try forcing to turn off:

Press the home button and power button together. This forces a power off.

Try DFU mode

1. Plug your device into your computer with a USB cable.
2. Turn off the device.
3. Hold the Power button for 3 seconds.
4. Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds.
5. Release the Power button but keep holding the Home button.
6. After about 15 seconds you will be alerted by iTunes saying that it has detected a device in Recovery Mode.

Make sure you have the latest version of itunes

That may be a bug in your version and Apple has probably released a fix for it.
