Q: Can you now have multiple Itunes accounts sharing content on one computer?

Hi - I was trying to find this information on line but cannot.

The last "big" Itunes update (11.2?) prevented multiple Itunes accounts from sharing content on one computer.  Well, you can, but with consequences. For example, my husband purchased a movie rental with his Itunes account on our computer when he logged on to Itunes, but then I could not download any Itunes content for 30 days when I logged on to my account. I no longer purchase any content from Apple because of this. I was hoping this feature has been discontinued – it prevents households from purchasing Itunes.  We never pirate or steal any content at all. In fact, this feature forces us out of the Itunes universe to purchase movie rentals and music elsewhere.

Not just trying to complain, really. Legitimately want to find out if this rights policy still exists before we both try to rent or purchase anything from Itunes.

Thanks.

"Won't it present problems if the daughter needs to reauthorize the computer for her own use before 90 days,"

No. The 90 day limit ONLY applies to redownloading purchases from iTunes..

So if she were to redownload purchases from the father's account then she'd have to wait 90 days to redownload form her own account. and the computer can be authorized for multiple iTunes account (pretty sure it's 5) . You don't need to later reauthorize for first account if you authorize for a different account.

More discussion on 90 day wait period - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6094005 - disable automatic downloads so message doesn't appear when using multiple accounts.

Most people don't see the "re"

Is this new? Because at the time this was clearly not the case - I was not RE downloading content, but actually downloading content I had purchased right then and there.

Regardless, you did answer my question. This policy still exists, so I won't be purchasing from Itunes.  Thanks so much for your reply.

iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627 - In connection with, "When you turn on iTunes Match or Automatic Downloads, or when you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID. ... Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days."  It specifically mentions that in the context of the three conditions mentioned at the start but not for regular new purchases.  Many people use computers regularly with different AppleIDs, just avoid having to re-download material too frequently (should never be necessary if you have a backup).

I don't know if it ever was different or if you just thought it was.  For at least a year I've been seeing posts where people confuse the conditions and have been corrected by other ASC helpers.

    Lisa,

You talk about a "computer" - but unless I am mistaken (and I am sorry if I am) your profile only lists "devices"

If you do have a computer, now that iTunes 11.3.1 is out have you had any better results?

    Best Regards,

    mm

oh, sorry if that was not clear- i am using a Mac mini (not the most recent version) connected to my tv with an external hard drive.

I just downloaded itunes 11.3, but i did not get a new terms of use document, nor can I find one anywhere on line, so I cannot see for myself if the terms for multiple household use has been changed. Really odd that this information is not easily available. I can only assume terms have not changed.

Thanks for checking in, I appreciate it.

    Hi again Lisa,

Having a degree in a field that did not have an overly comprehensive emphasis on legalese, I really can't speak to the issue(s) that you are trying to "iron out" w/Apple. I was able to find the following, however, if that could be helpful to you per your review.

    http://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/us/terms.html

The aforementioned page also includes the following link:

    http://www.apple.com/legal/contact/

Finally, I happened to find this PDF which may or may not be of help:

    Best Regards,

    mm

Thanks so much, they is exactly what I was looking for. Alas, same restrictions apply "(iii) You may switch an Associated Device to a different Account only once every 90 days" - but I do appreciate the the help. Thanks all.
