Q: cannot turn on mac

Hi I have a macbook pro 13 late 2009 running mavericks

Recently I noticed that I cannot turn on the computer with the power button. I tried many things, such as resetting the smc. The funny thing was doing that worked (I could see the power adapter light change) but that means the power button is working??? Help is appreciated!

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Sounds like a hardware issue with the button.

Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck
