I know it is possible to install OS X on a disk which is used to store files without erasing them. What I wanted to know is if that is still possible using the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" option or not (as a cloning process wouldn't let you do). Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, it erases the volume and replaces the contents with the contents of the snapshot.
I didn't know who to trust. At the end it didn't let me anyway, you can't install OS X Mavericks in a drive which has been set as a Time Machine Backup.

I suggest you trust the screen that appears when you start the recovery:

You can, if you unset the destination and then delete the folder named "Backups.backupdb" at the top level.
You never said you were going to restore OS X to a drive used for a Time Machine backup. That will never be permitted. However, if you were trying to restore to a drive that is not used for Time Machine but got that warning, then either erase the drive or see OS X- Cannot install on a volume used by Time Machine for backups.

Thank you, but if I remove all the information in the Time-Machine backup then it would be the same as installing OS X on a clean drive.
Does installing OS X on a Disk, from a Time Machine Backup delete information previously stored on that Disk?
