Q: photos

I connect my Nikon digital camera to my IPAD to transfer photos but nothing hapens automatically.  I try to open different apps but find no way that says anything about transfering.  I want to use the IPAD as a storage to save space on my camera when I take trips.  I can transfer direct to my IMAC from the camera and the IMAC automatically recognizes the camera for transfer to the IPHOTOS app.  HELP!

iPad, iOS 7.1.1

I used a gender changer adapter to be able to hook up my camera transfer port to the docking port cable (used for charging and syncing) so that the male USB ends of each can all be hooked as one cable line.  This bypasses the need for the Connection Kit.  The camera is in the PTP mode in the menu setup of the camera.I never see a message for transport and no apps open up.

No, the camera connection Kit is required to do this. You cannot bypass it through a gender adapter.

The reason the adapter exists, is to tell the iPad that there is a camera connected. And to transfer the photos.

If there is no adapter the iPad simply does not recognize the camera.

Thank you for the info.  I also asked Nikon if the D70 could transfer photos to the IPAD.  They told me that it CANNOT.  Unless this Connection Kit can recognize this model that Nikon does not know about.  Is there a list of cameras that it will or willnot work with?

The camera connection kit should recognize most if not all cameras. There is no explicit list of supported models since the mass storage modes are technically standard across all cameras.

Alternatively the SD card reader adapter should be able to directly read the camera's memory card also.
