Blue Screen of Death, now turned Grey

Hey out there. I'm working on my brothers iBook G4, I'm not sure of the exact specs. He brought it to me saying one of his non-Mac friends was messing with it and messed it up. After he turned it on for me the screen was completely blue. I restarted it and once again it turned blue. We used it as a target computer because he needed files off of it, and we could access the harddrive via Firewire just fine (onto a host iBook G3 older comp).

After removing the firewire connection from the host G3 and his targetted G4, the screen only turns completely grey now after restart/start.

I hear the start-up chime as I turn on the laptop, and then it turns to a back-lit gray screen with a few semi-noticeable horizontal pixellated lines. It then turns progressively brighter until it turns fully "Apple-colored" grey.

How can I fix this!?

(Note: It is running Mac OS X, but I'm not entirely sure if it's 10.2 or 10.3)

Hi,

Welcome to the Discussions.

See if Your Mac won't start up in Mac OS X (Mac OS X 10.3.9 or earlier) helps.

Thanks for linking the article. For some reason that article didn't come up in any of my searches through the database. I'm waiting on my brother to send me his installation discs so that I can run Disk Utility and if necessary a reinstallment. I'll update after that on how it went, but so far you've been very helpful, thanks.
