Q: The complete guide to get our publication on the store ?
Ok, after so many hours reading about it here and there and calling apple, i would love if someone can either approve what I am listing here, or tell me the complet process to get our publication live in the ibook/itune store.
We are : a monthly newspaper/magazine, it's bilingual (french + english), and it's in Canada
Pricing : our printed papers are for free in stores, so we want the same online, free.
Here is what I have understand so far,
for having our publication on the web
(we want to be on computers and tablets, both Apple and maybe Android too)
iBook : is related to the iTunes Store. It is for books, not for monthly newspaper.
iTunes Store : is for buying anything in the Apple world, musics, apps, books, etc.
Newsstand : is an app only on Apple mobile device (ipad/iphone/ipod) and it's for periodical like us, one a month.
What are the solutions offered to us today ?
either ;
- create a regular pdf, put it on our website, 0 $
- create a pdf, make it interactive with flip book solutions, then put it on our website, 0 - 200 $ once.
- create a pdf, add it to social magazines sites, like adding it on Issuu.com, we can add on our site too, 0 - 80 $/month.
- Use InDesign and export the work with Folio panel and Adobe DPS, 500 $/m + 99$/year newsstand fee.
- create a pdf, enter one complete solution website for pdf to iPad app, like Mag+, 300-500 $/m.
- enter the iBook Author program, get their software, create a .epub file and upload to iBook Store, 0$, but approval process can take from 1 to 6 weeks each time we upload, plus it should be only for book, not newspapers.
- apply for dev apple program, 100$/year, download their software to create .ipa files AND also create ourselves a custom App $$$$$.
- Get an App programmer to build our custom app $$$$ once, get this app on the ibook 0$ and the newsstand sites 99$/year.
...and on Google Play Store, simply upload a regular PDF if I get this one right.
So, is this list correct ? Did we understand it right and these are our only options ?
