Q: Can I connect a wired mac to a wifi mac on a lan?

I have two macs on my LAN. One is an older desktop and is connected to the LAN by cable. The other is an Imac and is connected through an airport extreme. Right now they can't see each other even though I have both configured for sharing. The older desktop runs snow leopard and the imac runs mavericks. What do I need to do to get them to see each other?

Turn on the wireless card in the older Mac if it has one. However, it should not make any difference on a local network. You should be able to communicate even though one is wireless. So, I would look at your Sharing setup.
