Season pass

Why is an episode available for purchase in the iTunes Store before I can view with a season pass?

I Purchased the entire season of a show. It was aired on the network a week before it was made available to me. Before it's made a available for me to view with my purchased season, I see it on the iTunes Store, for sale.

What gives?
