How to reclaim disk space after deleting Boot Camp partition?

Hey all... I'm running Mavericks, and just removed a Boot Camp partition on my secondary HD (2 TB). I removed it using Boot Camp Assistant as I'd read that using Disk Utility and/or DiskWarrior to do this would result in all that data being corrupted. The Windows partition was successfully removed, but none of the space it occupied has been relinquished (460 and some odd GB). I had wanted to use this space to make a Time Machine backup of my laptop, and would really love to know how to reclaim the space and not feel so royally screwed over... I've been reluctant to use Disk Utility Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

What leads you to believe you did not recover the space? Did Boot Camp Assistant fail to remove the partition and restore the drive to one partition?

Exactly what does your partition map look like in Disk Utility? Do a snapshot of it for us to see:

For future reference when you wish to post screen shot do this:

  1. Press COMMAND-SHIFT-4 which will change the cursor to crosshairs.
  2. Hold down the mouse button and use the crosshairs to select the part of the screen you wish to capture.
  3. Release the button and the image will be saved to your Desktop.
  4. Click on the Camera icon in the toolbar of the forum message editor.
  5. Drag the image onto the Choose File button and click on the Insert button.

*I've been reluctant to use Disk Utility to repair the volume or restore permissions on the secondary HD yet, as I've heard too many accounts of people bricking entire HDs this way and would prefer to know what the right course of action even is before taking any further action. I used Boot Camp instead of Disk Utility specifically to NOT have this problem.
Sorry about that. There doesn't seem to be an edit button, either...
Many thanks!
