phishing email

My son accidentally downloaded a zip file that he has now realised was a phishing email. He has deleted the file but is there a possibility that anything was left behind. I would be grateful if someone could tell me what is the best thing to do

A file download is normally not Phishing. Phishing is trying to get personal/financial information (account numbers, user names, passwords) through social engineering. Did it ask to update account information or something like that?

That sounds like some type of Trojan which probably wouldn’t affect your Mac as the currently known ones do not operate through a zip download, and are blocked by XProtect anyway. Unless you actually run the downloaded software, it can’t cause any damage.
