how do I freeze panes in numbers

Despite reading various posts on this I am struggling to get numbers to freeze the panes at the top of my worksheet. I have tried selecting freeze panes on the pop up menu and from the top menu but despite all this when I scroll down the headers disappear off the screen! I presume that I am doing something completely wrong and its really frustrating as I am usually pretty good with picking things up but this has just baffled me!! HELP!

Hi kirstan,

I assume you mean t freeze header rows.

One way for things to not work the way you are describing is if you do not actually have headers. So selecct the row you want to be a header and in that same menu choose "convert to header row". If you don't see convert to header row then this is not the problem.

You can also check here it see if you have header rows:

Kirstan,

Use Quinns answer for how to do it, i just thought you migt find a little more info useful.

It sounds like you are coming from Excel and thinking like excel still.

In Numbers each set of data is in its own table (or it should be 🙂 ). You cant really think of sheets in Numbers. Each table has its own settings. One table might have two header rows, not frozen, menaing they will disapear. And another has one but it is frozen and will "stick" at the top of the screen when you scroll through the list.

When making a new workbook, make sure each set of data is in its own floating table, with header rows defined as above (the inspector can also be used to set it up). This will allow your data to be completely safe when deleting rows or columns from other tables. And allow easier formula reading when entered in.

Thanks

Jason
