How do I keep a window open when working in another program?

I'm working in a music program call Sibelius and many times I open the manual for information. The manual opens on top of the music I'm working on and I then read the information that I need. When I'm reading from the manual I go back and forth from manual to music and when I click on the music which is still visible the manual goes in the background which is very annoying. Is there a way of keeping the manual visible all the time without it going into the background when I click on the music? My OS is version: 10.9.4

Thanks

Hi again Peter

Personally I find the best solution for viewing multiple windows and/or toolbars, is to run a dual display setup.

For example: when I'm working in Pixelmator or other App's with toolbars, I move the tool bars and other open windows to my second monitor.

If dual monitors is not practical for your space or budget, then try either placing the manual window or second window slightly off set so that you can easily click on either window and bring it to the front.

Or by using the yellow minimize button on the manual window and move that window to your Dock when it is not needed.

And then just click on it in the Dock, when it is needed.
