Q: How do I remove iCloud photos from the main Library simultaneously on my Mac?

Hi Good People!

So, on my iPhone i can delete photos from from iCloud and camera roll simultaneously by removing them through Photos>Moments. Excellent i thought but when i got back to my Mac they were still in the main library. So after checking through the preferences i turned off automatic upload on my Mac and that seemed to be the answer.........but not really. As now nothing uploads to the Mac library although they are still in the iCloud folder.

What I want to be able to do is similar to how I work on the iPhone. Delete a photo from the Moments/Collection section and they then disappear from the main libraries on my other devices.

The question; IS THIS POSSIBLE?

Many thanks in advance.

You can delete photos from iCloud -  when you take a photo with your iPhone it will be added to the Photo Stream and stored in iCloud, in "My PhotoStream". This is synced to all devices and visible in the local copies of the Photo Stream.  If you delete a photo from any Photo Stream, it will be removed from iCloud and all local copies of the Photo Stream on all devices, but not the photos that have been imported to local events on your other devices.  Photos, that have been imported from the Photo Stream cannot be deleted from other devices. They are no longer synced with iCloud.

Thank you for your swift reply Leonie......so I take it from what you are saying the answer is no, which is a shame. I guess I can upload from the iCloud on the Mac when i'm good and ready?

Yes, you can only delete from the photo streams on all devices simultaneously, but not the photos that have been imported to the libraries on the other devices. These photos can only be deleted directly on the devices.

You could try to delete the photos from the iPhone and the Photo Stream, before they get streamed to your other devices. This will save work on the other devices. If you turn off the Wi-Fi until you have checked the new photos and deleted the ones you do not want, they will not upload to iCloud and appear on your other devices.
