Invalid character in folder path?

I downloaded the installer to upgrade to iTunes 7 (for Win XP). When I try to run the installer, it gives me an error saying:

"The folder path 'My Documents' contains an invalid character."

The only thing I can think of (and I think this may have given me the same problem when I first installed iTunes several months ago) is that my My Documents folder is not in the usual place. I have it on my secondary HD, so it's at "D:/My Documents" instead of C:/

Could that be the problem? If so, how can I get teh iTunes installer to know where to look?

This doesn't help me either. I first uninstalled iTunes 6 and Quicktime and iPod software, as has been recommended. I also made sure everything was clean using the Windows cleanup tool. Every time I attempt to install Quicktime 7.1.3 I get the error "The folder path 'Program Files' contains an invalid character." I've even tried deleting \Driver from C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\ and reinstalling from the latest version of the Installshield driver...no change in the error message.

If you check %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp\, the file QTInstallCode.log contains:

############################
QuickTimePreInstallProc Enter
Moving QTPrefs file (if necesary) to new location...
Getting QT preinstall info...
Getting QT process count...
Current QT processes = 0
Will check for QT version: 7.1.3.100
WARNING: did not find "C:\WINNT\system32\QuickTime.qts"
GetQTInstallInfo: No QuickTime installed
Final result: 2 (error=0)
QuickTimePreInstallProc Exit (error=0)

If I check QuickTimeInstaller-7.1.3*.log in the same folder, it shows:
