alpha rendering and zooming to stills

Hello,
I have two questions that I hope someone can answer.
1) I'm putting subtitles on a 90 miute documentary using the text tool with a drop shadow in a DV Pal project. After placing about 20 minutes of titles on the timeline I'm having to render them. Once the batch is rendered I can place some more titles and view them realtime (till I have to render again). Is this a RAM issue? Does the Alpha channel eat up RAM or processor power?

2) I'm editing a film that requires lots and lots of pan and zooms on stills, but when I drop the stills into an fcp timeline, I have to render them to see them full quality. Before render, they playback realtime but at very low quality. The stills are 300dpi and 2 to 3 times bigger than pal settings. Can I get around this issue? And for a 30 minute film mostly made up of stills will there be problems? And are there any functions and/or plugins that are similar to AVID's pan and zoom?

Thanx a lot..

1) Most likely a RAM issue

2) Movement on stills in FCP is darn easy. And yes, you will have to render, especially with high res stills. FCP needs media to reference...just like Avid's PAN & ZOOM. Here is a tutorial on how to do movements on stills in FCP:

hi Shane,
thanx for replying so quickly and for directing me to your tutorial. I'm watching it now (slow download times though!).

My only problem was the render thing... i was hoping to find a way to import hi-rez images into FCP and pan and zoom without having to render. What I'm worried about now is that the green bar will become a red bar once I have 30 or 40 images on the timeline.

but i'll just have to wait and see how it goes!
thanx
