what kind of hard drive does a macbook pro use? IDE?

I want to replace my Macbook Pro hard drive. It crashed and was removed at the Apple Store. So, I don't have it in order to read the data on it. What exactly do I look for in ordering a new one? IDE? etc.....

G4, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Not all drives necessarily use more power at 7200 RPM. Some are lower power than other 5400 RPM drives. Short of installing a hybrid drive or an SSD, a 7200 RPM drive will improve performance with respect to disk-based operations. High capacity drives, however, are almost all 5400 RPM drives, but with newer technology they are much faster than old drives at the same speed. Hitachi has a 1.5 TB notebook drive and Toshiba now has one with a 2 TB capacity. Samsung has an excellent 1 TB model.

It helps to identify models in which you are interested, then visit the mfgr.'s website to locate spec sheets so you can compare.

Intel Macs use SATA notebook size drives - 2.5". I suggest you have the Apple Store replace the drive that they removed. You will find examples of such drives at OWC along with installation tutorials and toolkits. I do not recommend you do this yourself if the computer is still in warranty or if you don't feel qualified to do it yourself. If you cause any damage replacing the drive Apple will not repair the computer for you.
