It says I have over 5000 pictures on my iphone when I connect it to my mac taking up 11GB of space, but I only have just over 2000 in my camera roll? All my storage is now full up. Has anyone got any suggestions please?

It is saying I have more picture on my phone but I cannot locate them to delete them. Also it says I have 4.5GB of apps when all of them totalled up doesn't add up to this amount. So all in all I now have no storage left on my phone and cannot even back it up anymore as it is over capacity

I was having the same problem (phone saying I had nearly 600 photos and 0 available space, when I had 11 photos). I resolved this issue by going into my computer's hard drive where the photos were stored/cached (for me it was on my C drive, Users, my name, and my Pictures folder). In there I deleted everything out of those folders ("Adobe" folder, "iCloud Photos" folder, and "iPod Photo Cache" folder). Once I did this, I synced my phone. That cleared most of them. Then I went into iTunes again, clicked on the phone icon (where you sync the phone), into the Photos and unchecked "Sync Photos". I synced iTunes to my phone again and it shows the appropriate amount of photos.

I hope this is helpful to those out there having this problem.

Here's what you need to do,just figured it out and it worked for me after having the same issues with 500 photo's and a few video's taking up space and I could not update my iOS to the current version because of it.

So go to settings, general, date & time, tap your date and time and set it to 3 years back,go back to your home screen, turn off the phone, turn your phone back on after a few mins, tap your "photos app" and you will see all your recently deleted photo's,tap on that and delete it,go back into settings, general, about and see if your photos and videos have dropped to zero, and then do the same process and reset your date/time back to current, shut your phone off and then restart it,and your good to go.

Hope this helps you all.

I have been struggling with this since I got my Iphone6! I've used Apple phone tech support where they had me restore (did clear some space, but none from photos). I've even brought it into the genius bar and they basically blamed facebook....saying the facebook app was somehow storing photo's on my phone! LOOSERS! I knew they were wrong and they treated me like I was a complete crazed moron.

I've tried SO many things over the months, and setting back the clock seemed far fetched. I had to restart my phone before it actually DID WORK!! I'm finally free of the 1,800. photos my phone claimed I had (must have loaded from my iphoto by mistake when I got my phone).

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

This worked for me! Don't know why the phantom photos remained in "Recently Deleted" items.

I managed to get rid of the phantom usage. Restoring iPhone and resetting the phone settings/data do not work for me.

I had to move the Date on my phone earlier by 1,2,3 months and found the phantom photos in the Recently Deleted Folder. Next, I deleted the photos manually from the Recently Deleted Folder and the usage got freed up from my iPhone.

Hope this works for you

The solution of rolling the date back didn't work for me. Nothing showed up in my recently deleted folder--I tried going back a few months and going back a few years. I tried everything. Nothing ever showed up. When I plug my phone in to my computer to get my photos off, it is saying I have over 1000 photos and I only have 700 on my phone. Looking at the photos, there are several hundred on there that are not on my phone (including a series of 100 of the ground that one of my kids must have taken!)
