If you have installed the latest printer drives, then remove the printer in System Preferences > Printers & Scanners and then add it back in.

thank you for your immediate reply.
Unfortunately I also applied the routine of "remove and reinstall" but it doesn't work with my Lexmark x5490.
Before getting stuck in this problem I tried a procedure (from this discussion
I found in the "apple support center" that now is not more available (page not found),

and that procedure has worked until I updated my Mavericks. I remember that, once the driver was installed, there is a file to modify (something like: go to folder library ... and so on), but I can't remember the procedure.
Have you some alternative ways?
