converting photo file from CR2 to JPEG in iPhoto

I am an aspiring photographer that used a Sony program to edit my photos. While utilizing the Sony program, the edited files were saved as CR2 files instead of JPEG. I need to convert the files from CR2 to JPEG. Can someone help me out?

Are these photos already in iPhoto? What version of iPhoto and system are you running?

If the photos are already imported into iPhoto then when you make any edits with iPhoto the resulting edit will be a jpg file.

If they are not imported into iPhoto then maybe the Sony software can convert them. Also there is a Automator workflow app that I created that will take any image file, convert it into a jpg and embed the sRGB color profile. It's called Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile.app and can be downloaded from Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the waring about running it on copies as it will convert the file to jpeg and if it's not what you want you can resort back to the original raw files.

Hey Todd! I made an Automator workflow/application as well similar to yours. Now, neither yours nor mine works with .CR2 format. I'm guessing that this is happening because of the latest update of Automator which only has "convert type of image" as an option and not "RAW to jpeg". What do you suggest I should do to convert .CR2 images to JPEG format?

Check this Apple document to see if your camera model is supported: OS X Yosemite: Supported digital camera RAW formats ... If it is you'll have to search the Apple Downloads site with for the the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility updater for your Sony model, download it and apply.

If your camera isn't supported you might try Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh to covert the photos to a DNG file which iPhoto supports. The Automator might work with a DNG file but I don't know. You can import them into iPhoto and then export them out as a JPEG file at Quality = Maximum and Size = Full Size.
