The only way you can print reliably and correctly on OSX to a Zebra TLP2844 printer is with a commercial printer driver.
The Zebra version of this driver prints to all Zebra manufactured printers, straight from any Mac application with no pixelation. The only drawback is you have to purchase it.

Hope this helps people.
OSX comes with drivers installed (EPL and ZPL).
To add your printer follow these directions
Step 1
Open your system settings, and hit Printers and Scanners.
Step 2
Click the add printer button to add your Zebra Printer.
Step 3
Select your Zebra label printer from the list, name it ZPrinter, add a location (optional). For the Use option select "Select Software".
Step 4
Type in Zebra in the search field, and select "Zebra ZPL Label Printer" as the driver. Click "ok" and save the printer. It should then show up under available printers.
The process should be the same for your TLP2844, make sure you select the correct language version eg. EPL or ZPL.
Once you have installed your printer you will need an app to process your labels, the best app available is FixZPL from www.fixzpl.com. No drivers or plugins need. To print your Labels simply drag and drop them onto the app and FixZPL will do the rest.
NOTE: If you are not using FixZPL you can keep the default name for your printer in Step 4. FixZPL requires that your printer name be ZPrinter.
This company will help you. They have amazing customer service.
