You installed the "VidX" trojan, perhaps under a different name. To remove it, first open the Applications folder by selecting
Go ▹ Applications
from the Finder menu bar, or by pressing the key combination shift-command-A. Look for an item named "VidX," "MacVx," or similar. If present, drag it to the Trash and empty.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extension you don't know you need. If in doubt, remove all of them. You may well have more than one that's adware or spyware.

Great, Many Thanks...! I was on the verge of insanity...!
Omg I thought I was going to have to reset my computer thanks a lot! I just got it over a month ago and the pop up ads were driving me nuts!
THANK YOU. I LOVE YOU. YOU SAVED MY LIFE. YOU'RE SO BOMB. KEEP DOING YOU. 😍
Thank you very very much!!!!!!
I add my thanks to Linc Davis.
I trashed the extension in Safari preference and I no longer need "Adbloc"
Thank you so much! Those ads were driving me insane! 🙂
it can also appear as an extension in safari called macfest. even though they say macs do not need a virus program, i am installing one
This is all well and good if you can actually find an item named "VidX," "MacVx," or similar. I can't, any other ideas?
I too didn't have any of the files mentioned in my Applications folder but as has been mentioned I did have the Macfest Extension installed in Safari. Check your Safari/Preferences/Extensions for Macfest and uninstall it.
I had just upgraded the Adobe Flash Player and then the ads started so I suspect it was installed by Adobe.
where is preferences?
You can also on Chrome, go to preferences, extensions and uninstall the program.
I see that it is also called Macfest. Cheeky tinkers. Many thanks for this - sorted me out, too.
Mine was Macfest too; thanks heaps all you guys 🙂
Yes, mine was Macfest on Chrome. I let a friend's son use my computer, so I am assuming he did something that added this extension.
