Q: airplay icon missing from MacBook Pro

I have lost the AirPlay icon from the top of the screen. Been reading others advice and switched off the router for a min and hey presto, NO ICON still! Dear Apple, What is going on please??

MacBook Pro with Retina display, Mac OS X (10.7.5), OS X 10.9.4 but this was not listed

Tried all this advise, but have to say, this advise is for any other IOS device that is not a MacBook Pro! I am on the same wifi connection and done everything as I have always done before with success. Here, my problem is simply that there is no icon on my Mac screen, therefore no option to send or 'mirror' my screen to my AppleTV.
