Mac Pro - External clock on Digital Out ?

I am trying to use the built in Digital Out on my Mac Pro 2010 for OS X audio. However I am sending SPDIF optical to the Mac Pro Digital Input which locks successfully but still the Digital Out still says "Default" but I want the clock source to be external or more specifik the Digital In clock.

Is this possible at all...

Please don´t respond if you are not familiar with professional audio using different external devices which are word clock syncronized with 75 ohm BNC cables etc.

I would be very surprised if the spdif input and output on the mac pro are not internally linked to the same clock, especially since the machine does not have a synchronization input other than the toslink one. You could verify that by stretching the clock signal and seeing if the output follows. And again, I'm pretty sure it will.

Also, I don't really appreciate your disclaimer. To me it sounds very rude to tell people not to answer if they don't know this or that. Anyone can post here unless he or she violates the forum rules. So please don't show that attitude here if you don't want answers on the same level, i.e. along the lines of RTFM or "why don't you try it yourself?".

Cheers,

Jazz

I've wired two pro studios with all manner of digital formats using digital patch bays.

Normally the output follows the input, it is the Digital Input that shows the lock to external clock, sometimes this happens automatically, in some instances you have to tell the input to lock to external clock. So.... I don't think it matters what the output says, the only way to test it would be to make sure the Digital Input is locked to external clock (setting it manually if need be) and then monitor the digital output while switching the external clock between two sample rates, 44.1 <-> 48kHz.
