Shared Library Error

Hi all, I'm kinda new here, so forgive me if this has already been discussed here. My problem is this: I recently downloaded the new update for iTunes and ever since have not been able to open any of my MS Office documents. It gives the following error message:

The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "2<Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_CarbonSound>"

Same goes for Excell. I also tried opening/running a game (Ghost Recon) which I've never had trouble with before, and get the same error message. Prior to downloading the new iTunes update everything worked just fine. I've done a search on this error message and found suggestions of repairing permissions, which I've done. However this hasn't changed anything. What's going on and how do I fix it?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. Moderators please feel free to move this to a more appropriate forum if needed.

Thanks for your help,

John

Hey John,

I am having the same exact problem however my Application Launch Failure is a tiny bit different For Microsoft Word 2004 it states: The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error "<Microsoft Word><Microsoft Word><Carbonlib>". I have the same issue with all Microsoft programs and I cannot even install Windows Media Player (which is even a stranger message with Asian chracters but similar Carbonlib thing). The errors cam about recently (right around the install of iTunes 7).

I have tried all the disk maintenance such as disk repair and permissions repair (even from the install disk) and still have no solution. I do not have my disk for Office 2004 and would hate to but a new one.

I hope my added message will get someone's attention to help us out.

Hello John,

I brought my MacBook Pro to the Apple Store's Genius Bar and we tried a couple of things. None of them worked. What we did do was an archive and install of the Mac OS X from the Installation CD. You should look up more information on this a try it out. It solved all of my problems and I did not lose any of my data.

I hope this works out for you.
