This is making me crazy. Somewho, I have gotten the fields of "phonetic first name" and "phonetic last name" in my contacts list. Anytime I add a new contact, or alter an old contact, I get "false" in each field. then my iPhone 4s sorts them under the F instead of by their last name spelling. How do I delete the fields? What an aggravation!

I am also feeling frustrated with this. Someone at Apple please respond. It is messing up my contacts.
I Found that the "phonetic name" can't be empty, if you change it to the persons first name it'll arrange your contacts to the proper letter category. It's a pain but a fix until something else comes along

I have a solution, and it's really quite simple. Under settings, go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Scroll down to Contacts and make iCloud your default account. Then go into mail and delete whichever account you had as the default account. Turn your phone off and then back on and your contacts that were incorrectly under "F" should be in the right place. Now you can add back the account you deleted, but make sure that "Contacts" is toggled OFF. Hope this helps.
Sounded OK until I realized how many contacts I have. This seems to be a problem if you have OS 7.1.2. Once that is upgraded, maybe (hopefully, the problem will be made to disappear.
Thanks -- It helped in as much as I now know what the problem is. However, as 90% of my contacts came from Yahoo, leaving that turned off won't work for me. I am trying to get Yahoo to do a patch but o far they do not seem to understand the problem.

But if you do the procedure outlined in the article, all of your Yahoo contacts will be merged with iCloud, so you can turn the Yahoo contacts off, and the iCloud version of the Yahoo contacts will still be there.
I just fixed the Contacts issue adding "false false" to the phonetic name field. They were correct when they said it had to do with YAHOO account contacts. I was able to fix it by going to CONTACTS / PREFERENCES / ACCOUNTS / and DISABLE the Yahoo account. All my contacts are now sorted correctly and the "false false" is gone. I hope this helps someone.
