Jul 31, 2014 7:28 PM in response to robmoniniby kahjot,It can be done, but not without jumping through some hoops. Probably not worth it, especially if you depend on your machine functioning reliably.

Jul 31, 2014 11:26 PM in response to robmoniniby DPArt,First and foremost you would need a new Graphics card as Mav has NADA for X1900.
If you have access to another, NEWER Mac Pro this will actually be pretty easy.
There is a guy named Tiamo who wrote a single file that you need to copy twice.
Another guy named TobyG wrote an app that recopies it after a system update. Been very solid setup, I have a 1,1 that runs it just fine.
But you need a GPU first.

Aug 1, 2014 2:44 AM in response to DPArtby Note To Self: Don't Die!,I also have a Mac Pro 1.1 2.66mhz that is or was running great... i was running Logic Pro on it and i loved this machine...
i am thinking of installing 10.8 or even 10.9 on this machine via some of the nifty solutions that are available...
will Logic Pro run ok in this type of scenario?
I have a recent macBook Pro 13" machine that I am also running Logic Pro and Aperture etc on and would like to have both machines running the same software as the Mac Pro is more comfortable to work on with bigger screens and faster hard drives and bigger hard drives etc...
I suppose I could try and setup a dual boot with 10.8 or 10.9 and a 2nd system with the 10.7.5 osx?
I already have the upgraded proven graphics card so I am ready to rock once i get up the courage...

Aug 1, 2014 5:38 AM in response to robmoniniby a brody,Is a documentation on how to make it work for Mountain Lion, which may work for Mavericks.
Mind you, if the reason you are doing it is because of some other software compatibility, there is no guarantee you will gain access to that other software. I would test this configuration on a separate hard drive before upgrading the whole machine to ensure everything works properly. And Backup your data regardless before the upgrade.

Aug 1, 2014 1:36 PM in response to a brodyby Grant Bennet-Alder,There is an easier way now that tiamo wrote a boot loader that uses 32-bit EFI to bootstrap in a 64-bit EFI into main RAM. This is considered less evil because it is not a Hackintosh solution -- it can only be used on an older Macintosh. Read this if you prefer print to You Tube video:

NONE of this is supported by anyone. You are completely on your own to get it to working and keep it working. Apple does not endorse this solution in any way.
