Q: Unable to install Mavericks on new SSD
Hi,
I have an early-2011 17" i7 Mac Book Pro. I have recently upgraded the memory and have installed a brand new SSD drive. I am trying to install OS X Mavericks from a Recovery USB drive.
Prior to new SSD, the system booted fine with the new memory, so I have ruled that out.
The recovery tool loads (when holding option on boot), and sees the new SSD, which I have partitioned as MacOS extended (journaled) using the Disk Utility tool.
When I click on "Reinstall OS X", it gives me the "To set up the installation of OS X Mavericks, click Continue", followed by "To download and restore OS X, your computer's eligibility will need to be verified with Apple", to which I click continue.
I then get the error: "An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again". Re-running yields same result.
The MBP originally had OS X 10.6 or 10.4, could that impact on it's eligibility to install Mavericks?
The wifi connects successfully, and if I go to "search online", connects to the internet successfully.
I am new to Macs (it is my father's computer which he has given to me after upgrading), and I do not know how to resolve the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

After more searching and a bit more background knowledge, it turned out to be that removing the battery cleared the date. I set the date using the Command prompt as described in another thread.
