Joining Tracks in iTunes 11.3

I am in the process of ripping some of my CDs into iTunes.

I have done this procedure before where you join tracks together so they are seen as one file.

It is particularly useful with Pink Floyd albums.

So, tonight while using iTunes 11.3 on my MacBook Pro I ripped a Dream Theatre CD and successfully joined tracks prior to ripping.

Now I am trying to do it again with another disk and the "Join" option has mysteriously disappeared.

I'm talking about the same evening, the same session, like an hour later.

I did a preliminary search here on the site and found someone using 11.1 had the same issue.

He solved his issue by closing everything and rebooting.

I don't even want to tell you how reading that made me want to scream.

Can you say, It's-Windows-All-Over-Again?

So I tried it. I closed everything and rebooted.

No luck. The option is still not there.

I don't get it. It was there an hour ago.

It's the same version of iTunes. No updates in between.

Please tell me how to get this done.

There must be a keyboard shortcut or something.

Thanks

Why not make them gapless instead of one giant track?

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1548291 - join tracks together by making them a gapless album.

iTunes 10 for Windows: Join CD tracks - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH1610 - probably the same for Mac. Must be done while ripping, not from already ripped tracks.

I have no idea about the issue. I still use iTunes 7.5 (yes, 7.5, not 10.7) and have not needed to request assistance with it in about 10 years. 🙂 If you are desperate and want to try third party software for ripping check XLD (what I use) or Max.

With Windows it isn't simply restart the computer, it's re-install the operating system each time there's a problem. 😉

Changing the sorting order to manual fixed it.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I don't remember changing the view options but I guess I must have.

As for the previous suggestion about gapless playback, I suppose that would be OK if you're just doing a straight album playback but if you ever use Genius or Shuffle for playback the gapless option is not going to keep those tracks together that need to be kept together. Thanks for your time anyway though. I appreciate it.
