Q: Tibook useful in 2014
Advice would be greatly appreciated on the following;
Recently I rediscovered my old Tibook in storage and as it booted up, and contains a myriad of software albeit dated - Reason, Quark, Indesign, Premier etc.
I was considering giving this to my 11yr old niece as I remember this machine and software helped me a lot in my teenage years, and was hoping that she could possibly gain some understanding of the software etc. as she is entering secondary school this Sept.
It is a G4 15" 1GHz model running OS X 10.3.9
However there are several issues with it regarding;
It is my understanding that I can up date the OS to Leopard 10.5.8
Is there any issues with such an update and will this enable me to connect to the internet. As I can connect it to my home wifi network which is a BT Hub 5, nevertheless I cannot connect to the internet using IE 5.2 or Safari 1.3.1? What is the latest browser I can run?
Can I also update the airport card to later than current 802.11b ?
Also it asks me to update the time and date settings when boot up is complete. Is this an internal battery problem?
The lithium-ion battery is fine but the charging cord has had it on the connection and has to be adjusted to enable the light to come on at the port. What is part availability like for such? Also requires a new base and the outer surround which houses the latch and superdrive slot needs replacing? How difficult is it to obtain these parts and replace DIY mode?
Basically is it worth restoring for her or scrapping it, just a shame as other than the above it works fine. Thanks for the assistance guys
