Using Apple TV with sky?

I Have a sky subscription on my main tv and have just got a Netflix subscription for box sets. I understand that an Apple TV device lets you watch netflix through your tv but my question is, can you just plug the Apple TV in? Will it work with the sky or would I have to disconnect the sky box to watch it? And what kind of lead would I need for the Apple TV device? Please bear in mind I'm not remotely techie so need an answer in simplest non-techie terms :-)

The Apple TV connects to your television using an HDMI lead (not supplied, so you will have to buy one) so as long as your TV has more than one HDMI socket you can simply plug both the Sky box and the Apple TV in and select them in the usual way - there is no conflict. An HDMI socket looks like this:

If you have only one HDMI input you can buy an HDMI switch to save you having to keep plugging and unplugging, but get a manual one, not one which auto-detects the last device on since the Sky box will hog it.
