My iphone 3GS won't play music through my headphones, only on the speaker.

My iPhone 3GS will not play music through my earphones. The music only plays through the speaker. The earphones work on other devices such as my PC. They sometimes work on my phone when I move/shake them around while their in the headphone jack but only briefly. My phone was working fine with headphones until I plugged my phone into a speaker. It worked fine with the speaker but after that they started acting funny with headphones. Could it be something inside my phone be damage?

Hello S3D3,

It sounds like your head phone connection doesn't seem to be working anymore unless you jostle the plug but the headphones work fine in another device. That does sound like a hardware issue, but there are a few other things to test. Use these troubleshooting steps to help determine if that is the case:

  1. Verify there is no debris in the headset jack.
  2. If the issue persists, try another headset.
  3. If the issue persists with another headset, have the iPhone serviced.

Additionally, if you have not already try restarting the phone for good measure.
