Q: Bluetooth to Mac connection

I'm running a iPhone 5s with IOS 7.1.2 along with an iPad Air with IOS 7.1.2 and a Mac Pro running OS-X 10.9.4. When I connect to both through bluetooth the iPad connects quickly and stays connected but the iPhone searching for minutes then after discovering it won't connect, saying the device "Mac Pro isn't supported". Both devices are on the desk next to the Mac Pro so distance isn't the problem. I've walked through all the troubleshooting proceedures suggested by Apple's technical bulletin (reconnect, reboot, reset network, etc.) and none of them fixes the problem. The Mac Pro discovers the iPhone quickly and tries to connect but the iPhone 5s doesn't connect. This worked a month ago. Any suggestions?

Please see this iOS: Supported Bluetooth profiles. Connecting to a device with a profile that the other device does not support is not possible.

You can only connect via Bluetooth to other apple devices if you're tethering.

That's not helpful. The iPad Air connects to the Mac Pro with the same IOS 7.1.2 version. The Mac Pro discovers the iPhone but the iPhone doesn't connect. This worked a month ago with no problems under IOS 7.1.1 and not after updating both to 7.1.2, so IOS and the iPhone 5s isn't working right. I only use the bluetooth once a month for the color calibration.

I'm not tethering. I turn off the iPad bluetooth and get the same response from the iPhone, it discovers the Mac, trades the code number and then shows "device not supported", and the Mac discovers the iPhone, trades the code number and shows "not connected" message. Both of these are direct connection between the device and the Mac Pro, which shows it works when the iPad has no problems, only the iPhone.

Some more testing shows that when I turn off third party bluetooth apps the iPhone and Mac Pro connect but quickly afterward the iPhone drops the connection.

I have got exactly the same problem. Plus my Iphone 5s doesn´t show any other bluetooth item around. Not even my own old Iphone 4 which still functions properly.

    As it should.

iDevices do not connect to the Mac except for tethering the internet connection from the iDevice.

I only use the bluetooth once a month for the color calibration.

What does bluetooth have to do with color calibration?

Datacolor makes an IOS application for the Spyder 3 and 4 series color calibration tools (for computer displays or monitors) for the iPad and iPhone. I've used them once a month for a few months now. The Mac app uses bluetooth to connect to the iPad/iPhone's app when the Spyder tool is on the device and connected to the Mac (USB).

As said, it's worked until I updated to IOS 7.1.2, and worked on the iPad today without problems, but the iPhone's bluetooth wouldn't connect to the Mac despite having no problems in the past. The best I get is a quick connect and disconnect between the Mac and iPhone, and it's the iPhone which drops the connection. This suggests the problem is with/in the iPhone or IOS 7.1.2 on the iPhone.

I've tried all the things Apple's tech. reports suggest, and that's why I'm asking for suggestions, hopefully other than what I often hear, which is the nuclear option, meaning remove and reinstall the content or rebuild the IOS software.

I have the same problem, too. My iMac (late 2013) with OSX 10.9.4 can't connect iPhone5 with iOS 7.1.2 by bluetooth. But it connect iPad Mini Retina with iOS 7.1.2.

A month ago, my iMac received the notification from iPhone via Notifyr App using bluetooth sharing. One day it didn't received any more... So I knew this.

I am having a very similar problem, and was hoping someone on this thread has stumbled across a solution.

    2013 iMac - OSX 10.9.4

    iPad 3 - iOS 7.1.2

    iPhone 4gs - Ios 7.1.2

iPad connects via bluetooth no problem. iPhone get pairing number verification and then throws the error "Device not Supported." This used to work no problem so I'm not sure what's up. I'm not trying to tether internet or anything fancy. It's just much easier to sync my devices with iTunes over bluetooth instead of pulling out the cables every time.

    Any solutions out there yet?

Wouldn't your solution be to use Wi-Fi for syncing with iTunes? You can plug your devices in to iTunes with the syncing cable and clicking on the device will show you a checkbox at the bottom of the page to "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi". Though you probably know this I'd thought it may help if not. Take care

iDevices do not sync (and never have) to itunes  via Bluetooth.

    They can sync via wifi.
