Airport Express Not Working

My modem is working fine, says my carrier, and my airport has been working great for 5 years. Suddenly today my devices stopped being able to connect to my network. Nothing has changed, there is still an ethernet cable that connects my modem and the airport and the airport is still green. Also, usually if I disconnect the ethernet from my airport and plug it straight into my iMac it continues to work, and it stopped doing that as well today. I have tried restarting my modem and that hasn't done anything. I don't think it's a problem with the ethernet cable either.

First, you need to eliminate the possibility of a bad Ethernet cable.....even though you think it might be fine.

Post back after you try a cable that you know is good with the iMac connected directly to the modem. A new cable is not necessarily a good cable until you know that it works. (I once had 2 bad Ethernet cables in a row and both were "new").

So now you are saying that if you connect your iMac directly to your modem, that you can get a good Internet connection that way? Or, are you saying that the iMac cannot get a good Internet connection when it is connected directly to the modem?

You must be able to get a good Internet connection with your Mac connected directly to the modem first......before....we attempt to troubleshoot the AirPort Express.

If you cannot get a good Internet connection when you test with your iMac connected directly to your modem, then we cannot proceed until this occurs.....since it is obvious that if the Mac cannot get a good Internet connection when it is connected directly to the modem, the Express never will either.

OK, thanks for clarifying that for me.

Unfortunately, things are not looking too good right now if you have already reset the AirPort Express back to factory default settings, reconfigured it, and devices still cannot connect to the AirPort Express.

The first thought that comes to mind is that on average, the life of an AirPort Express is about 4-5 years, so we are not sure whether you want to try to continue to work with the Express that you have or whether you want to go ahead and replace it, since it is about that time.

If you want to continue to try to work the Express that you have, we will need some additional information to be able to continue the process.

What is the make and model number of the modem?

What is the model number of the AirPort Express? The model number is on the side of the Express....hard to see, so you may need a magnifying glass and good lighting. The model number starts with an "A" followed by four numbers. For example, you might see A1264 or A1084.

What version of AirPort Utility are you using? If you are not sure, open AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort Utility menu in the upper left corner area of the screen, and then click About AirPort Utility. Post back with the version number that you see there.

Thanks for responding, there are a few other odd things going on as well. Airport Utility will only recognize the airport if it is not connected via ethernet. As soon as I plug the ethernet in, the airport isn't recognized by Airport Utility. As for the info,

The modem is a 2Wire Gateway 2701HG-S

Airport Express Model Number: A1264

Airport Utility Version: 5.6.1

Also, I have 2 airport expresses but one refuses to be recognized at all so I'm just dealing with the other, the one that has been working fine for years.

One more thing, now my network has disappeared completely and there is nothing to connect to.
