Ram upgrade 2009 mac mini

Hey,

I just attempted to install 16 GB of crucial RAM into my late 2009 mac mini as I'm having some major beach ball issues after updating to Mavericks. I popped these in the machine:

When I started it up, the light flashed and it was honking at me. When I put the old RAM in it worked fine. How much RAM can I put into this thing?

Thanks. (Here is an EtreCheck:)

The 12800 memory is for a PC notebook, the 8500 is for a Mac. You must use the correct memory specified by Apple for a Mac, PC memory of the wrong type will not work. Also, PC memory often will not work in a Mac even if it is of the right type number as PC memory does not use the same timing and latency specs as Macs use.

Stick with the 8500 if you want to be successful.
