Q: OS X Recovery Install Error

I replaced my hard drive with a new 480GB SSD and was trying to install a new OS X Mavericks from scratch in order to selectively transfer files from my old hard drive.

I have a Time Machine backup of my old, failing drive on an external USB drive. I've plugged that in and booted into recovery mode. Once in, I was able to format my new drive easily enough. I then tried to select "reinstall OS X". When trying to verify my computer with Apple, I get the following message:

An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again.

I've tried resetting the PRAM & SMC. I've tried connecting to the internet via ethernet (vs standard wifi the first few times).

I've checked here to no avail:

OS X: About OS X Recovery  (I cannot figure out how to verify if DHCP is enabled on my network via recovery)

and can't figure out why this won't work.

Any help is much appreciated

In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A copy of Safari will launch. Can you connect to the Internet?

From the Installer menu bar in Recovery, select

Window Installer Log Show Errors Only

Copy the contents to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Quit the Installer.

That will return you to the OS X Utilities screen. Select Get Help Online. Safari will launch. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords. Log in to this site and paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

None of that shows the reason for the installation failure. It's most likely caused by the aftermarket SSD that you installed. Refer to the manufacturer for support, and if you don't get a solution, return it.

So I'm in the process of troubleshooting and it was pointed out that i am getting a known error:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5307?viewlocale=en_US

The problem/question I have is this:

Is it possible to reset the time/date in my current state (no bootable drive installed; only recovery mode available)? There does not appear to be any place where I can make this change - normal "System Preferences" from the Apple menu () are not available.

If not, how am i supposed to reset the time/date? My old drive is failing and barely bootable at this point.

The original issue was related to an incorrect time and date - my Macbook Pro had reset itself to Jan 1 2001. I was able to reset the time via the terminal command in the recovery mode and everything worked fine thereafter.

Resetting the date in terminal was very easy and can be found here:
