Compatibility mode

I just downloaded Itunes 7. When I start the program a window pops up that states: " Itunes exe has been set to run in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows. For best results, turn off compatibility mode for Itunes before you open it." Don't have a clue why it would have done that or how to change that. Im on a PC with XP Pro. I can't find anything in Itunes or in the file folder that lets me do that. Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

this is very easy to solve and i have mentioned this before in another post so it may of been quicker to actually search to forum

anyway heres how to solve it

goto C:\Program Files\iTunes (or where ever you have installed itunes)

right click on itunes.exe
click properties

click the compatibility tab

untick EVERY box

this includes
run this program in compatibility mode for
remove all the tick boxes from display settings & imput settings

once you have unticked all the box click ok

run itunes again

I have the same problem. I have followed all of the instructions, but can't see an itunes.exe file.

just doublechecking something, krees.

when you doubleclick your itunes icon on your desktop, what do you see happen? do you get a message talking about compatibility settings? or does something else happen? if something else happens, could you describe it for us fully?

the screen goes black, then when it comes back it has switched to the lowest color bit possible. and the message that says:
"Itunes exe has been set to run in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows. For best results, turn off compatibility mode for Itunes before you open it."

Then I click ok and I can still run Itunes. I can even go to my desktop and change the settings back to normal. But this stupid issue is after 2 days of trying to get things running right after my first attempt at downloading the #()*#A% version 7.0. It's time apple issued a fix. Version 7.0 is the devil.

This was my question originally and martin 1049 did answer it though in a somewhat snooty way ( I did a search for "compatibility" and that did not help- ) but he is right on the fix.

Go into the Itunes folder under "programs" and there will be an Itunes.exe file. Right click on that and go to the bottom of the menu that pops up to "properties". Click on that. That pops up a tab box called "Itunes Exe properties ". Click the "compatibility" tab. THERE are the boxes they discuss. UNCHECK every box on that page. That does fix at least fix that problem 🙂 The screen going to black and coming back low colored is because there is also a setting on that page to set to 256 colors. So uncheck EVERY thing on that page.

okay, then there must be an itunes.exe on your PC somewhere.

if it's been located in a hidden folder, you may not be able to track it down unless you have "show hidden files and folders" selected.

in My Computer go, "tools > folder options". click the view tab and select "show hidden files and folders. while you're in that area, also make sure that "hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked.

try another search for itunes.exe. does it show up now?
