iTunes 11.3 won't open on OS X 10.6.8

Whenever I click on iTunes the icon bounces once then nothing happens. It doesn't display an error message or anything, it just stops bouncing. Help please!

Hi rianna,

It is possible that your iTunes library has been corrupted in some way. You can test for this by using a new iTunes library and seeing if the application will launch correctly. Instructions for doing this can be found in this article -

iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one

If this works, you will need to re-create your iTunes library. Follow the steps in this article -

Have Snow Leopard and latest Itunes launched fine.

I only have music in it - 99% imported from CD's - only purchased a couple songs about 6 years ago - that was it.

Also syncs with my probably 8 year old or older IPOD fine.

So its related to what you have in the ITUNES library, that it may be corrupted, or have another issue such as size, podcasts etc.

Have you checked the Utility - console - logs for any error messages?

There are known 11.3 problems with PODCASTS that have been reported to Apple Support - It would help if you also reported the problems to support.

That would include details on the size of ITUNES and functions you are using along with any error logs.

Hi Brett,

Thank you for your help but unfortunately I wasn't able to solve my problem. iTunes won't open to let me create a new library. I also tried creating a new account on my computer and opening iTunes in that way but it still was not working. Should I try deleting iTunes and starting from scratch?

Hi rianna,

Is it possible that you have any iTunes plug-ins installed? If so, the following article may help you -

If not the due to the nature of the issue you described you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.
