iPhone 5s: exit recovery mode without restoring

My iPhone 5s is stuck in recovery mode on the "connect to itunes" screen. I believe this happened because my computer shut down while my iPhone was updating.

When I plug it in, the only option itunes gives to resolve the issue is restoring the phone to factory settings.

I have tried holding the home and power button down for a soft reset and that has not worked.

I have tried using TinyUmbrella, but the software doesn't seem to download correctly to my computer.

I should note that my PhotoStream is jacked up and seems inaccessible.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I have been an iPhone user since launch in 2007 and this is the first time I have ever had an issue I couldn't resolve on my own.
