restore notes from .mbox file

Hi,

Can I restore my notes from an export of all notes made before updating system - notes app export notes.mbox

Its a long story, but I lost a lot of notes when i tried sync to new iPhone a while back, and more when I upgraded the system beginning of 2012 - 10.8 I think it was then. I have an export of notes from an old backup disk, but can't import to my notes app.
