Q: OS X running slow after maverick update.

Some games (Roblox) became incompatible. I am not very good with complex fixes.. need something basic??? Wi-Fi has been slower and glitchy in games. Here is of my log...

Avast has caused many Mac users problems as noted from the results of an ASC search here.



And you need to remove the Genieo malware. Instrucitons > The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide : Genieo'


Restart your Mac after removing Avast and the Genieo malware.


If the problem persists, remove razer. See this discussion >  Re: Menu Bar Icon delete

    Uninstall All your anti-malware software since it is not needed. Get rid of Genieo: Adware Removal Guide - Genieo.

    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.

    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there

         is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.

    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that

         the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering

         techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.

    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on

        your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a

        protection against malware.

    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware

        from which they purport to protect you.

    Why are you running drivers for both Logitech and Razer? Do you need to launch these at startup and keep them running?

    Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

     

    Mavericks and later

    Why do you feel you need one? Most of the advisors who will show up here will tell you that you don't need anything other that Mavericks to protect you, but perhaps you have special needs?

    Anti virus software is not necessary on a Mac.
